Im Jahr 1986 beginnt Andreas Küttel mit dem Skispringen. Bereits mit 15 Jahren bekommt der damalige Junior die Möglichkeit die Qualifikation zum Weltcupspringen Engelberg zu bestreiten, mit dem Erfolg am Wettkampf teilnehmen zu dürfen.
Im September 2004 hat Andreas das Studium zum ETH-Sportlehrer erfolgreich abgeschlossen und sich anschliessend für ein Studium in Betriebswirtschaftslehre eingeschrieben.

Simon Ammann als Model bei der Präsentation des Outfits der Schweizer Olympiadelegation in Turin, Simon Ammann am Super-Zehnkampf der Sporthilfe, Simon Ammann als einziger Athlet an der Vorsaison-Medienkonferenz von Swiss Ski. Einen könnte dies stören, tut es aber nicht: Andreas Küttel. Er war in den Trainings im Sommer und Herbst einmal mehr Stärkster seines Teams, gewann erstmals ein Springen des Sommer-Grand-Prix und wird von Nationaltrainer Berni Schödler ohne Zögern als «der beste Küttel aller Zeiten» bezeichnet.

Die Augen der Schweizer Öffentlichkeit sind kurz vor Beginn der Olympia-Saison auf Simona Ammann gerichtet. Klar, vor vier Jahren wurde der 24-jährige sensationell Doppel-Olympiasiger bei den Spielen in Salt Lake City. Doch im Schatten von Ammann hat sich Andreas Küttel zur Schweizer Nummer eins gemausert. Im Sommer sprang er unverschämt gut, siegte zum ersten Mal bei einem Springen des Sommer GP und war auch danach ein Klasse für sich. Als die Schweizer in Einsiedeln mit den Deutschen zusammen trainierten, konnte nur Michael Uhrmann mithalten.

Ein Schanzenrekord von 139 Metern bringt Andreas Küttel den Erfolg. Sein Vorsprung auf den Tschechen Jakub Janda ist mit 0,1 Punkten minimal.
si) Dreieinhalb Jahre nach Doppelolympiasieger Simon Ammann am Osloer Holmenkollen stand erstmals wieder ein Schweizer Skispringer zuoberst auf dem Weltcup-Podest. Andreas Küttel schien in Lillehammer nicht so recht zu wissen, wie ihm geschah. Äusserlich gelassen, als ob Siegen für ihn Routine wäre, nahm er die zahlreichen Gratulationen entgegen. «Ich freue mich vor allem über die guten Sprünge. Ich wäre auch als Zweiter happy, aber wenn man gewinnt, ist das umso besser», sagte der Turn- und Sportlehrer. Der Einsiedler gilt schon lange als grosses Talent. Einen entscheidenden Schritt hin zur Weltspitze machte er im vergangenen Sommertraining, als er seine Kraftwerte markant verbesserte.
Andreas Küttel: "Actually now I feel hungry but I'm very happy about this victory. I really enjoyed both jumps. I had a good tension in the body before the take-off and could do really strong jumps. The skis help me a lot to jump a hill record. In Kuusamo I took the summer modell. This time I jumped with the new one which allows to fly long when there is no strong head wind. In the training I really concentrate on every jump. So the difference between training and competition isn't so big for me. For the Olympics I have a dream to win a medal. But first I have to qualify for Torino because in Switzerland the qualification period starts only in Engelberg....To win a medal at the Olympics you have to be in a good shape and the external conditions have to be good. Of course you need also luck. It doesn't matter for me that people is all the time asking what's going on with Simon. I'm used to it that he as Double Olympic champion takes is more interesting for the media, especially in the Olympic season. But I had to do some big interviews as well before the season. No we go to celebrate a little bit with the team and I hope that Lars Bystoel is coming as well because he celebrates his birthday tomorrow.
Andreas Kuettel (Sui): "I didn't jump in the qualification because I want to keep the good feeling from the record jump on Saturday. I prepared as usual for this competition and was not nerveous. Both jumps were good at the take-off but I didn't come so high up as in the final round on Saturday. The conditions were little bit worse then on Saturday."
Andreas Kuettel: "I had already a good feeling during the first jump. But I think in the flight phase I could have done even better. The second jump was really phantastic. I really like this hill here in Harrachov. I felt this already last year. Before the second jump I waited a long time in the start cottage. I only heard the length of Uhrmann's jump. But I had no problem to concentrate on my jump. Tomorrow I try to do my best again."
Andreas Küttel: "It's just great to be on the podium four times in a row. My first jump was't perfect. After the take-off I didn't reach a perfect flight position. So I lost at least five meters and I had to be happy to be ninth after the first round. No I hope that we will get many spectators for the two World Cups in Engelberg. On this hill I did never well so far. I expect to be among the top ten."
How do you analyze your performance during the 04/05 season ?
It was by far my best season, however I wasn't very happy with my performances because I was often unlucky with the conditions.
What do you think of the competition sites for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics ?
I like this site and the Italian lifestyle. The jump is nice but the last time I went there the wind changed direction very fast... I hope that conditions will be the same for everyone during the Olympic Games.
